Torstein Horgmo Triple Corks to Gold

January 29, 2011

If you were keeping up with the 2011 Winter X Games, you’d know that history was made Friday, January 28th by 23-year-old Norwegian snowboarder, Torstein Horgmo.

Horgmo already laid down the first Triple Cork in June and it went viral, but Torstein pulls it again. Time time in a contest; first ever in a contest. Specifically, the Snowboard Big Air Finals of Winter X Games.

The trick was spectacular, mesmerizing, crazy, amazing, fantastic, insane and any other adjective that means something around awesome.

Although the trick wasn’t as stylish as the first time he pulled it in June, it was still great (take into consideration that the X Games Big Air jump was smaller, and icy).  Not to mention, Torstein had a slight concussion and broken ribs. Horgmo is a machine, who else can land a Triple Cork when their injured?

Horgmo wasn’t even expected to unleash the Triple Cork during the contest, but nonetheless the trick obviously scored a high score and sealed the deal for gold.

Class Five Snowboards: Free Snowboard Sundays

January 21, 2011

By: Ty Daku

The year was 2005, and the idea was simple, build some of the World’s best snowboards in a place where snowboarding is far from a booming industry. In the six years since then Class Five Snowboards has become one of the leading manufacturer’s of handmade snowboards in the industry. A home grown company, Class Five has been on the cutting edge of snowboard design with everything from construction to graphics since their inception.

They have also helped grow snowboarding on a massive scale by helping launch the careers of kids like Mark McMorris, Craig McMorris and Kurtis Rothecker. In addition they have played a huge roll in the local snowboard scene by getting involved in contests throughout the prairies and giving shreds a local option in solid snow products.

Not all that long ago I was contacted by C5 regarding a contest they are running. They are taking the opportunity to help out even more snowboarders all over the place. From now until February 7, they are giving away a deck every Sunday. The winner will get their choice of either Class 5 park killer, the legendary men’s slayer The Electro-Lab or the new addition and ladies weapon of choice The Danger Danger. There are more than enough sizes to suit any riding style and will no doubt have you filled with joy from the top of the hill to the bottom.

This contest is open to EVERYONE, yes even our American friends! All you have to do is head over to the Class Five Facebook page and enter the contest. You can do it every day to increase you chance of receiving a nice little gift from the Canadian flatlands.

Get over to FB and get your hands on a brand new, hand-crafterd shred stick right now!

R.I.P. Craig Kelly

January 20, 2011

By: Ty Daku

I just posted this on my site as well, I thought those of you coming across it might enjoy the edit.  Today is a day in snowboard history we could all go without. R.I.P. Craig.

It has been one week since Burton opened the monumental and hugely influential “Craig’s Prototype Lab” in Burlington Vt.  Fitting of them to do so as Craig was one of the most, if not THE MOST influential snowboarders of our time.  Craig Kelly was basically the prototype for pro snowboarding as we know it, with signature product and lucrative endorsement deals. He also broke the mould when he became one of the pioneers of professional “Freeride” snowboarding.  Craig turned his back on the contest scene and focused his attention on conquering the entire mountain.  He showed the industry what it really means to love the ride and showed the world the soul of the sport.  Unfortunately for everyone who is involved in this passion we lost a hero eight years ago today.  Craig was living his dreams guiding in the back country when he was caught in an avalanche and lost his life.  Lucky for us his legacy will never be forgotten, the impression Craig left on the sport and the people who live it is something that will live on forever.

Thank you Craig
