Would you like some sweet tea? This was more of a family gathering than the grand opening. Green Bananas Clothing, is a petite shop that opened it’s jubilant doors on September 18, 2010 in Bloomington, Ind.
Near the end of my journey, traveling through the culturally exquisite Fourth Street, I was greeted by two pretty ladies who sat outside the storefront. Heather is Co-Owner Ian Carter’s wifey, and Moe is a childhood friend who is employed by Bruster’s Real Ice Cream. Moe insisted I try a scoop of the Green Banana flavor for $2. I had no cash on me, which stunk because the chilly treat looked attractive on that 90 degree day.
Heather shook my hand as I introduced myself as one of Ian’s skateboarding friends. He is part of the Upper Cascades Skatepark “Afterschool Club;” whenever I arrive on the Bloomington Transit Bus at 4 p.m., he’s ollieing over a traffic cone, helmet on and padded up. Love it.
Soft green walls lined the store with painted black, outlined figures salsa-ing in each corner. The room was bright, illuminated by daylight peeping through the front window. Warmth through happiness exerted an atmosphere that mimicked the sun, in Ian and Shane Carter’s establishment. Greeted by old friends, smiles flooded the space. Yo mama was overjoyed to purchase a $16.95 “Banana Berry” tee, and you could not wait to get your hands on a pair of Limited Edition Nike Blazer’s.
Dickies, Diamond Supply Co., DGK, G-Shock, Habitat, and Converse stocked 305 E. 3rd St. Buy sneaks, swag, anniversary gifts, baby Onesies, and Monster Energy Drinks there. Guaranteed, the Carter’s will ring you up with nothing less than a smile on their faces.
