Green Bananas, so Hot Right Now!

September 26, 2010

Video, Photos, and Words by Sydney Goldberg

Would you like some sweet tea? This was more of a family gathering than the grand opening. Green Bananas Clothing, is a petite shop that opened it’s jubilant doors on September 18, 2010 in Bloomington, Ind.

Near the end of my journey, traveling through the culturally exquisite Fourth Street, I was greeted by two pretty ladies who sat outside the storefront. Heather is Co-Owner Ian Carter’s wifey, and Moe is a childhood friend who is employed by Bruster’s Real Ice Cream. Moe insisted I try a scoop of the Green Banana flavor for $2. I had no cash on me, which stunk because the chilly treat looked attractive on that 90 degree day.

Loaded Tan Tien, so Hot Right Now!

Toenail Boneless

My toenail is crushed into a million pieces. It was a Monday. I was in excruciating pain on an otherwise perfect day. The air was crisp, leaves swirling through the air, and the sun vibrant as it reflected off of my neon yellow helmet.

Showing off never ends well. My signature Loaded Tan Tien 180 frontside finger flip was a go to trick when I wanted to impress. Across from the Fine Arts Building, I popped my board up, flicked the 8 pound mass of woven bamboo, and it landed primo on my big toe. Let’s just say, I waddled the rest of the way home.

Dear Mr. Lewis,

Why CCS?

I asked myself this very question when I skimmed through your April 30, 2010 article “Friday Free For All: Core Shops vs. CCS.” With all of the criticism surrounding the opening of CCS Flagship Retail Stores in California, Alabama, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Texas, Kansas, and Oregon, you neglected to ask CCS their intentions [besides profitability].

This Week in Awesome: September 10, 2010

September 10, 2010

This week, there was thing so awesome that it made all other awesome things not nearly as awesome as they should be. As such, This Week in Awesome only has room for one thing this week…

Bob Burnquist’s Fakie to Fakie 900 on his Megaramp.

Yes, you read that right. Bob Burnquist nailed a Fakie to Fakie 900 on his Megaramp.

In the immortal words of Warner Wolf, Let’s go to the videotape

Bob becomes only the 5th person to ever land a 900, the first to ever land a fakie to fakie 9, and the first to land one on the megaramp.

The other people to land the 900:
Tony Hawk. Landed it at X Games V. One of the most legendary moments in action sports.

Giorgio Zattoni. In April 2004, after 6 years of trying, Giorgio finally put down his own 900

Sandro Dias. Just one month later, Sandro landed his own 900 at the Latin X Games in his home country. His reaction is amazing.

Alex Perelson. Landed his 900 at the Maloof Money Cup in July 2009 at the age of 18. To say Alex has a bright future is the understatement of the century

Avenues out of Adversity: Darren Harper Interview

September 7, 2010
By: OhioSkateUniv

Over the years, I’ve read countless interviews with skateboarders who seem to be riding the sponsor wave until it crashes. They speak candidly on the fact that they wake up day to day and skate if they feel like it. Darren Harper is not one of those skateboarders. Darren not only skates, but is a father who involves himself in charities, records and performs different kinds of music, and stays involved in his local skateboarding scene. When speaking with Darren, you understand that his family, friends and community are the things that are important to him. Coming from the ghetto of Washington DC, Darren shows us that there are multiple avenues out of adversity and every lane is worth dipping into as long as you maintain a knowledge of what you come from and where you’re going.

Stay Gold, so Hot Right Now!

September 4, 2010

The Lowdown on Emerica’s Stay Gold

Cons:

− The intro sucked because it had nothing to do with skateboarding, just Leo Romero driving his fancy car. This is Skateboarding Intro Part II, anyone?

Braydon Szafranski looks like Fabio in his “Weed Saves Lives” t-shirt.

− Please, can someone get Bryan Herman a cab? He spent 43,948 minutes nose manualing & skating the same spot.
